When I open Excel 2002, the personal.xls file opens. Sometimes I forget to
click on new to get a blank workbook and I enter data in the personal.xls
file. Is there a way to have Excel open with a blank workbook?

Thank you for your help.

Even better, hide personal.xls.

Open excel
with personal.xls the activeworkbook
window|hide
close excel and answer yes to the save prompt.

Now when you open excel, that personal.xls will still open, but it'll be out of
the way.

Personal.xls should be hidden unless you specifically need it (like to edit
an existing macro.) You can go to Window Hide with personal active. Try
hiding it, and see if Excel now opens with a blank workbook.

Thank you very much!

You can edit macros in a hidden workbook. There is no need for
personal.xls to be visible if you want to edit a macro.

That's true, and now that you pointed it out, I remember that. I was trying
to think of a reason that the OP might want to have personal.xls open and
that was the first thing that came to mind.
