How browse files back home from office

I just have a few PC's networked together with a LinkSys router on DSL.

EXTERNALLY...When I go into my office (or travel to another city), is it
possible for me to use anybody's PC and open up Internet Explorer (IE6) and
just key in my router IP address or something to be able to see both my PC's
and get whatever files I need off them? (I don't want to have to "configure"
someone's PC). If so, what's to keep someone else from browsing my PC? I
found out I could use remote desktop software, but wondered if there's also
a simple alternative to just get my files only (without looking at the
desktop)

Thanks,
George

Linksys called this "setting up an FTP server", I wondered if there are some
simple MS WindowsXP documents or something that show how to set it up? Is
this a fast setup or are we talking hours, for an intermediate level person?
Thanks
