How automate to setting Priority and Affinity for specific apps.

Scott Smith

I have a very CPU intensive program((AutoCAD 2007)which is not a
multithread app.), and I notice when I go in to Task Manager(on a Quad Core
System) and set Priority to High and Affinity to CPU 2 and CPU 3, that I get
better performance.

However, currently when I change the above settings I do so each time I
open AutoCAD. Does anyone of a way to have these assignments automated? My
first thought was using command line switches for the icon, but I can't seem
to find any help.

Second question; does anyone have a link to all of the command line switches
for programs?

Thanks in advance,

Scott Smith

At present I have no experience with ACAD07 on multicore systems.
I have however discovered that many people report the following update
from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C2AB5A48-8240-
4934-BBD8-34FB8A0FCE3B&displaylang=en

Please note this update cannot be removed once installed - it is present
on my own machine, and the uninstall is disabled.

Is not included in Automatic or Windows Updates, but is something that
improves performance for multicore systems running Windows XP.
If it hasn't been installed already (check Add/Remove Programs in Control
Panel with the 'Show Updates' option checked) you may want to try
installing this first.

I cannot presently comment on setting process priority/affinity
permanently, these are reset at boot time, and I haven't yet learned what
tools are available to set these permanently.

The Autodesk website and provided helpfiles inside ACAD07 and on the
ACAD07 discs should be your source for command line switches for ACAD07,
for Microsoft products you should have a look over at
http://technet.microsoft.com
and search for your desired application.
