Hot spots

Everytime I try to add a hot spot to a picture the picture goes blank?
How should I be saving the pictures?
Its actually buttons I made using Photoshop

Is the entire button a single link, if so then just select the button, right
click, hyperlink, and enter the hyperlink info.
