I suspect my hosts file is not working properly... I can't access many
accesible sites:

No se pudo encontrar el servidor o error DNS
Internet Explorer

How can I check, repair the hosts file in xp?
Could that be a cache problem? (cleared it recently...)

any help please?

Start Windows Explorer, and open the following folder:
%SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers\Etc

Edit the file called: "hosts" with Notepad.
It should contain:
127.0.0.1 localhost
 
This reply was a god send to me. I could not access google directly due to a
misdirection file created by the "QHost Virus".. apparently my virus
scanner removed the virus, but left the "host " file corrupted. A copy from
another computer pasted into this folder resolved the problem.
