I rename my 'hosts' file as 'oldhosts" and reboot the pc and I can go to the
internet. However, when I do a search for "hosts" file, the result does not
show this file. Isn't this file is suppose to be regenerated itself?

Also the user name been changed after I use the pc to scan another pd.What
does this means? Anyone care to explain the above please, thanks

What is "scan another pd"? Give a little more info, get better answers.

I meant to say, I used my pc to scan another hdd(slave) and after that I got
all sorts of problem on my own pc (such as page cannot be display but can
ping, unable to view certain website as the pc will reboot) Among them is
using the start>cmd> and as soon as I type something , the pc reboot itself.
Since then I scan for viruses in SM. and able to get pc bak to 'normal'.

I just did another "hosts" search and the result does not show 'hosts' Think
this is the command to get my hosts back
"netsh ip reset reset.txt" isn't it? Thanks

"hosts" is nothing but a plain text file with no extension

The only active line in a new one is

127.0.0.1 localhost

What do you mean by the phrase "used my pc to scan another hdd(slave)"?
Are you scanning for viruses?

The hosts file should be located in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
folder.

And since this is a system folder, you need to click on "More advanced
options" while you search and make sure the box next to "Search system
folders" is checked.

Why not just rename the "oldhosts" file back to hosts?
