HOSTS File URL

When putting a URL in the HOSTS file, can it have the * in the address?

Like 127.0.0.1 *.doubleclick.net to block all its different ad
servers, or does it have to be specific?

Like 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net ?

Thanks

No, it does not like wild cards, you have to do each server.

there is a chap that maintains a host file list with thousands of sites
listed as 127.0.0.1, search google for it.
