Is there another solution to Symantec's PCAnywhere built in to Xp and Vista?
I had to change my drawers after seeing how much Symantec wanted for each
seat of their software.

But if you want to make it easy try
gotomypc.com

or there is also ULTRAVNC I haven't tried the
ultra vnc yet but I've heard it's good. Plus it's free.

The advantage to gotomypc is that you can access
your pc from any pc with a web browser.

I also learned that if you subscribe then cancel after a few days
they will offer you a 1/2 price deal.

I use Remote Desktop most of the time, but I also use TeamViewer, which
needs no setting up, and no open ports or port forwarding. You do not even
need to install it, and it's easy to talk somebody through over the phone,
so you can connect to their computer to fix it.

Look at Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance in XP's and Vista's Help
files. Since you didn't say what you want to do, I can't tell you which
of these options will work for you.

There are free remote control programs available such as TightVNC and
UltraVNC. For occasional, personal use control in situations where you
want to assist someone long distance, Team Viewer is excellent. The free
version is limited to something like 25 hours, though. Cross Loop is
also supposed to be good and it's free.

That should give you a good starting point to see which of these things
fits your situation.

No, there is no time limit, but you can only use it for home use. Well, I
have not noticed any time limit and I have been using it for two years.

office with the ability to let users connect to it from their homes, in case
they need off hours access. Does that help with choices?

Thanks for that information. I was just reading about these sorts of
programs on Lifehacker.com and the article mentioned that Team Viewer
had a 25-hour limit. I use it (and love it) to help friends and family
and it's wonderful. Of course, it would take years to reach that 25-hour
limit for personal use but perhaps there isn't a limit. Their
professional version is crazy-expensive, unfortunately.

Yes. You probably want to set up a VPN if the data needs to be encrypted
or at least use something like TightVNC or UltraVNC.
