Dear friends:

I cannot uninstall anything !!!!!!

If I go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, the list of the
installed programs come OK, but the "Change" and "Remove" buttons have
disappeared to all entries in the list.

What can I do?

Any hint?

Thanks

First - are you logged in as someone with the rights to add/remove
applications from the computer (like an administrative level account?)
Second - what happens if you reboot into safe mode and look?
Thirs - what version of Windows are you running?

Dear friends, I am running as an Administrator. If I boot in Safe
Mode, the same happens. I run WinXP SP2 with all the patches
installed.

If I try to go to any of the earlier "Restore Points", after the
system reboots, it tells me that it was impossible to restore the
system to an earlier point. It seems to me that the Restore Point Tool
is not very reliable.

But yesterday, I could uninstall one application without any
problem!!!

I should clarify the problem details: In 60% of the programs listed in
the "Add or Remove Programs" Control Panel applet list, the "Change"
or "Remove" button have disappeared. In the 40% rest, they are there
as normally.

Any hint?

Yes. Back up your data and reinstall windows and all your applications. You
either have a corrupt installation, or a virus.

The story keeps changing.

Can you list a few application that do not have the Change or Remove buttons
and a few that do?

Is the "Show Updates" box checked or unchecked?

Can you do the following:

Start button --> RUN -->

cmd /k net user INSERT_YOUR_USERNAME

Click OK.

And copy/paste the part after "Local Group Memberships" that prints on the
screen?

Did you *try* the link I gave you with any of the applications that do not
have the "Change" or "Remove" buttons?

Dear Shenan, curiously, the only packages that appear in the registry
key you mention below, are those of the 40% whose "Change" or "Remove"
buttons appear in the "Add or Remove Programs" list.

Yes, I belong to the Administrators local group.
