Homedrive and homepath

Hello!

I've moved my personal folders (Documents, Music, etc) to my second partion
which is D:. When I open for example the command line it is set to start in
%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% which becomes C:\Users\Marlun. I want it to become
D:\Users\Marlun. What do I need to do? Are there any problems with changing
it?

Hi Martin,

You should leave %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% pointing towards the root of your
user profile directory (C:\Users\Marlum). This is the location of you user
profile, NTUSER.DAT. Even if you move your Documents, etc directories to
D:\Users\Marlun, the profile will always stay on C:\Users\Marlun. Some apps
and tools may try to locate your NTUSER.DAT by using the
%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% variables (yes, they could use %USERPROFILE% instead;
but be sure to get tripped up, by the one app which doesn't! .

What I do myself, is change the "Start in:" field of the "Command Prompt"
shortcut from %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% to D:\Users\%USERNAME%. That is: don't
change the %HOMEDRIVE% and %HOMEPATH% variables; just change the shortcut
you use to launch the command prompt. This will be the less disruptive way.

I also have a batch file on the PATH, called ~.CMD. This changes to my
D:\Users\%USERNAME% directory. So I can get back to the root of my
documents, music, etc, quite easily, whenever I want, by hitting "~<enter>"

Sorry to hijack this thread ... I'm trying to start a new one but it doesn't
work. Obviously ...pop up's are working because I can REPLY to a thread and
I also double checked IE pop up blocker and it is not on.

Can someone help. I just get the beep sound when I try to start a new
thread... question, suggestion, comment.

You're having difficulties because you are using the web interface which
is the worst way to access these newsgroups. You will get far more out
of this resource if you learn to use a newsreader, which is very easy to
do. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use Outlook
Express (XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it. Here are
