I currently have a network with the following equipment:

eMachine / Celeron 2.8 GHZ / Windows XP Pro / Gateway to Internet / DSL /
Crossover Cables
to
Compaq / p3 / 1 GHZ / Windows XP Pro

I know, the first thing you are going to say is"Get a Router". I plan on
doing that soon.

My question is this: Can I add another PC running Windows 98 to this network
thru another NIC card in the eMachine. It has a NIC card that is not being
used and I want to set this up for my A+ certification test.
I am not concerned about performance with the 98 PC. I just want to be able
to make changes to the 98 PC, experiment with the registry, try Linux, basic
internet, etc.

Thanks,

Jack Barrett

Yes. However, you will need to use a different subnet for the 3rd NIC
connection. As a result, the Win98 machine will not have Internet access
through XP's ICS. Instead you could add a switch or hub and connect both
the Compaq and the Win98 machine to the 192.168.0.0 subnet with standard
ethernet cables.

Or an alternative:

Bridge the 2 internal LAN segments to create a single logical segment.

To do this, disable ICS first, bridge the 2 internal LAN adapters,
then re-enable ICS using the bridge as the internal device.

Rather yuckky, but it might work :-)
