I am having problems hooking up my home network. I have two computers, both with XP Home. They are both currently connected through a router and using a DSL connection. I have disabled my firewalls and am not about to get them to communicate. I have used the Network Wizard to create the same workgroup on each computer with unique computer names for each. When I go to My Network Places It will show my Workgroup name, but it doesn't show the other computer. Have I missed something?

Would appreciate any suggestions, Thank you.

Hi, I just overcame a similar problem which had me pulling out my hair for days. I have a new desktop running Win XP Pro and wanted to connect my Win 2000 laptop using a Linksys router (wired) to my DSL. Both computers could see the internet and my XP Pro desktop could IP ping my laptop, but my laptop could not sucessfully IP ping my XP Pro desktop. Neither could sucessfully ping the other's computer name. Finally I reset and reconnected everything. Made sure the DHCP was enabled to auto on both computers TCP/IP properties and net Bios set to default. Then someone told me to check my Norton Virus software firewall settings on the XP Pro computer. This is where the problem was all along. If you use Norton, go to Personal Firewall/configure/networking and add the IP address range for your computers set by your router and click trusted. This worked for me instantly! My network showed up on both computers and hours of stress slid off my shoulders. Also there is a great tutorial for Windows home networking on homenethelp.com. Hope this helps you!

If the Network Wizard has created a Network Bridge, try
disabling or removing it. You should find that you can
now see your computers. It seems to create the Network
Bridge even if there are other unused Ethernet ports on
the PC.
