Home Network Disconnect

John

I have a home network consisting of the following:
Desktop XP Home SP2 hardwired to router
Laptop XP Home SP2 wireless to router
HP printer hardwired to router
Cable Modem hardwired to router
The network is encrypted ( it's the step above WEP and I can't remember what
it's called)
There is no problem connecting to the internet or printing from either
computer.

HOWEVER, the problem is that I cannot set up connection between the 2
computers. I have done this previously with no problem so I'm wondering if
the problem has to do with the encryption feature I've added.
I've used the Network Setup Wizard, trying all of the options that make
sense for my hardware arrangement.

Help would be appreciated

WPA/PSK - Next step up. This does not encrypt the network, just the
communication wirelessly between the laptop, and the router.

Verify both computers are in the same workgroup. This will simplify your
network neighborhood. Also verify you have sharing enabled. Right click any
folder you would like to share, and go to sharing and security. Set the
appropriate options you choose. If this is the first time you have enabled
this option, it will prompt you with a dialog box asking if you are sure, hit
YES.

If you are using Windows ICF (internet connection firewall) the file &
printer sharing must be checked/enabled. Control Panel > Windows Firewall >
Exceptions (Tab) > Check ' File and Printer Sharing.

Open your My Network Places, click ' View workgroup computers ' on the left
pane. You should see them both now if you've followed the above.

If you have any 3rd party firewalls you may need to configure them as well,
refer to their support site.
