Home Network disappeared

I have run out of ideas on my own, so I am taking a shot and posting
it here.

A few weeks ago, while attempting to connect to her work network via
Citrix, my wife crashed our home network.

We have a Netgear router with wireless capability connected to a
verizon DSL line. The router is stil working. I can plug my work
laptop in using an Ethernet cable and the wireless USB receiver still
receives.

The Network connections panel is empty. The ones that were there - are
gone.

If I try to use the Windows XP Network connection wizard, it tells me
that I have hardware, but that it is disconnected. I even installed
the wireless receiver - when I rebooted and ran the wizard, it
recognized the wireless receiver and told me to connect it. So, it is
recognizing the hardware, but unable to connect to it. So, I don't
think that it is the internet network card.

I have a spyware detector and a virus shield. I installed a 2nd
spyware detector, and found no issues. I also ran item by itam through
my system tray to make sure that there is nothing funny running in the
background.

My PC is out of warranty, so, no free tech support is available.

I have not installed Service Pack 2, and as a 260MB download - I
cannot until I get my netowrk card working again.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Have you tried taking the wireless items out of the mix?? Run a CAT5 cable to
the router.. I don't know just a thought. Maybe the Citrix stuff locked up or
screwed up the wireless items??

I tested that - the desktop PC is cabled directly to the router. The
on board network card has a green blinking light on the back of my
desptop.

I also plugged a laptop into that cable, and that accessed the network
fine....
