Home Network Communication Problem

I

Ivy

My device:
1) a XP desktop (already downloaded the LLTD)
2) a Vista Home Basic laptop and
3) a Vista Home Premium laptop

All connected by wirless modem. I've made sure the network type is Private
and Firewalls enable File & Printer Sharing

The problem is about the Home Premium.

1) the Home Premium can't see the XP (but funny that Home Premium can use
the share folders of Home Basic)
2) XP & Home Basic can see the Premium but unable to communicate with the
Home Premium.

I swear that I have already read many posts and read through the Help and
Support, so if someone just copy and paste would not help me.

Regards

Ivy

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.

Permissions/Share info is there as well.

If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer
sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall .(LAN allowed)

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames, and
passwords (they can be different) on ALL computers in your Network). If you
have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to
access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista Computer.

Also, If you haven’t done so already, run XP’s Network Setup Wizard (in
Start >All Programs >Accessories >Communications), and tell the Wizard to
enable File and Printer Sharing.
Or > Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Set up a Home or Small
Office Network.

Ivy,

Visibility problems like this are frequently a problem with the NetBT setting
not being identical on the network.

And check for an overlooked or misconfigured personal firewall. What AntiVirus
protection do you use?

If no help, lets look at logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net
config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and try to
diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat, and run everything as an
administrator under Vista):
