Home network access

I have two XP and one W98SE computers communicating ok until I loaded APC
power chute, had interference with Norton Antivirus during shutdown etc.
However, when this occurred, I then found I could not access either of the
other computers from Network places/entire network/MS network/Home, getting
and error such as "not authorized to access Home......", although I could use
"find computer" and then access shared files on each computer. I had not made
any networking changes. All three computers still showed Home as group name.
I could ping each computer.

Since unloading power chute, I can now access the Home workgroup without the
above error, but can only access the W98 computer via Home, but not the XP.
Again, I can find it and access files on the XP using "find computer" but not
Network places..... I

All devices ping ok... what should I try next?

Thanks, Bob

Bob:

I find Network Places a bit quirky. My workaround is manually "add a network
place", which I can usually find browsing for it, which is the same you're
searching for it. The downside of this is when the system figured things out,
sometimes after 24 hours, I have duplicate entries in Network places.

Better yet, for folders I frquently use on the other computer, I map it as a
"network drive", so I don't have to wait for that "flashlight" on Network
places to stop.

Bob,

Take a look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and
"net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

I'd bet Norton Antivirus (or the antiworm component) is at the heart of the
problem. Why it didn't happen (if it didn't) until after you installed APC is a
good question.
