After re-installing XP Home Edition yesterday, I noticed I cannot start my
computer without having to have the disk in the CD drive. If it is not in
there, after my video ram test is through, the screen goes black with "HIT A
KEY TO REBOOT" in the upper left corner. If I take the disk out OR remove
the cd rom from the boot sequence I receive this message. I have previously
had windows on this computer without any problems for pretty much a year.
However, I have installed Xp on many machines over time and have never gotten
this error. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you
ahead of time.

I've seen something similar like this! The PC was "infested" by a boot
virus. Needed to do a virus scan with the drive set up as a "slave"" drive
on a clean PC. The virus was listed as an "old" virus (MS-DOS era). Do an
extensive virus check!

You might have changed the boot order in your BIOS
and/or enabled "boot from CD" to install from the CD.

Go back into your BIOS and make sure that your
boot order has your hard drive as the first device
and disable "boot from CD" options.
