hissing noise from speakers

I recently installed a new speaker system on my computer. Sometimes when I
reboot, there is a loud hiss coming from the speakers. I do want to clarify
that this only occurs sometimes. Any suggestions?

Perhaps a prayer to St. Patrick?

Double check that you have the lead wires connected to the properly sockets.
Next, make sure the speakers aren't too close to some other electronic
device that could distort the sound.

Check all lines and connectors for shorts or opens (broken wires,
connectors, etc). Does this occur when gently wiggling the speaker wire or
the connector at the back of the computer and speaker ? If so, replace.
Radio Shack carries the most widely used cables.
