How do you highlight a cell using your keyboard shortcuts? In other words i
don't want to go to the toolbar with my mouse all the time.

Function key f5 will enable you to go to any cell. The arrow keys allow
you to move left / right / up / down. If you want to highlight a range
hold the shift key down while pressing up/down etc. For larger
movements you can hold the CTRL key at the same time as pressing an
arrow key. If you have contiguous data you can also press <END> once
followed by an arrow key to move to the next blank cell.

If you go into Excel Help ad enter keyboard shortcuts you will get even
more listed.

On the Tools menu, click Customize.

Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.

How?

In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.

With the Customize dialog box open, do one of the following:

Assign or change a toolbar button's keyboard shortcut

Click the button on the toolbar (On the top toolbar, not in the box)

In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection.

In the Name box, type a name for the toolbar button with an ampersand (&)
before the letter that you want as the keyboard shortcut.

Press ENTER.

Assign or change a menu command's keyboard shortcut

Click the menu name on the menu bar (menu bar: The horizontal bar below the
title bar that contains the names of menus. A menu bar can be the built-in
menu bar or a custom menu bar.) or toolbar.

Click the menu command.

In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection.

In the Name box, type a name for the menu command with an ampersand (&)
before the letter that you want as the keyboard shortcut.

Press ENTER.

In the Customize dialog box, click Close.

Ok once i get to the cell i want highlighted. How do i highlight it just
using the keyboard

Thanks for the response but i cant get to the selection that says Modify
Selections. Is there a way to get it to become active

Yes....you need to click on your "fill" button on the top of the toolbar
(that you use while in excel). Once you click that (the little paint can)
modify should become active
