Highlighting and deleting test in the IE7 Address Bar

Hi. I've just got a new laptop with Vista and IE7. Having a lot of trouble
navigating around in IE7. I can highlight the address, but cannot delete it
or type over it. Neither 'backspace' nor 'delete' works if the text is
highlighted. The only way I can do this - and even this does not work
sometimes - is to place the cursor at the end of the address and delete each
character using the 'backspace' key. This is deeply, deeply irritating! I
see some people seem to have had similar problems in Word, but as I didn't
get the Office package, I am looking for advice as to how to correct this in
IE7. (Incidentally, I can't do it in this window either!) The way the
cursor 'locks on' the scroll bar and keeps scrolling up or down is also
something I would wish to remove. Please can someone help?? Thanks.

Sorry, this doesn't help - it hasn't made any difference. For example, if I
am at www.johnlewis.com, I cannot just highlight and delete the 'johnlewis'
or highlight it and type over 'debenhams'. I have to find the right-hand end
of the address with the cursor and delete each character. Hope this
clarifies my problem. I'm sure I can't be the only one suffering it!

Thanks,

Helen
