Highlighting a problem

I have lately problems with highlighting a paragraph or even a sentence. It
just does not do it at all or highlights only a part of the selection. I
never had that before. I could highlight with the mouse going from left to
right or right to left.

This is using Windows XP and mostly when I am in Windows Live Mail.

The OP did not say whether the failure to highlight occurs only
when using the mouse (thus might be mouse hardware or
software) or also when using the keyboard (e.g. Shift held
down & arrow keys.)

But you DIDN'T say if it was ONLY with the mouse. Perhaps if Don had
directly asked you a question rather than making statements, obliquely
referring to you in the third person... Put it this way: does the failure to
highlight occur only when using the mouse (thus might be mouse hardware or
software) or also when using the keyboard (e.g. Shift held down & arrow
keys)?

Does it ever happen when typing up a *new* message in Windows Live Mail (viz
not a reply or forward)? What other programs does it occur in?

If I forward a message from a webmail account, and want to edit the
message before forwarding, or replying, the tables and possibly other
html coding within the message cause similar problems. (These different
areas are distinguished by red lines forming boxes around the text.)
Once the click/swipe enters a different "box", I lose the pointer and
even just clicking within the table won't always get control back.

This is with Thunderbird, but sounds similar to your problem.
Basically, I just work within each area, cleaning it up before editing
another area.. maybe that'll work for you too.
