Highlight text + backspace = delete in Word, not any more - why?

I used to be able to delete a high lighted text by using the back space key.
For a few months this function is no more available in WORD. Is this a bug in
my software or did Microsoft change the code?

If this is a bug, can Microsoft so that they can fix it? Interestingly
enough, this function works on the text box that I am typing in now...

Appreciate a feedback. Thanks
