hiding large ammount of columns in excel

hello
i have 2 pc's with excel 2000sp1
the OS is winxp pro sp2
the systems have a lot of free space in hdd and ram 512 or 1024
when i try hide few columns there is no problem..
but when i try to hide more than 30columns or more doesnt work
i try the same in both computers but the result is the same..

What happens when you attempt to hide more than 30 columns?

Error message? Nothing? Excel crashes?
