Hiding and unhiding columns "toolbar"

I have a worksheet with a "toolbar" that allows me to
toggle between hiding and unhiding pre-set columns. I do
not have access to the author so I am seeking help. Can
anyone tell me how to create and delete this bar?

The bar is located at the top of the sheet, just below
the customizable toolbars. It has two "checkboxes" on the
left, one containing the number one, the other the number
2. By clicking on the 1 or 2 I can toggle between hiding
all the hidden columns or unhiding them. But I cannot
delete or modify the bar, which I need to do.

Can anyone help?

You can delete the toolbar by:

Tools|customize|toolbars tab
selecting your offending toolbar and clicking Delete

But it may come back. toolbars are usually associated with workbooks. And many
times, when you open one of these workbooks, it'll recreate the toolbar.

So after you delete the toolbar, you'll have to see if you killed it dead.

Close excel and reopen it.
Is the toolbar there?

If yes, then one of the workbooks you opened created that toolbar.

You could have the workbook in your XLStart folder, or it could be checked under
Tools|addins.

If you uncheck it from tools|addins or remove it from the XLStart folder, then
the next time you open excel, you won't have the toolbar.

Creating the bar using someone else's workbook could be a problem. If the
project is protected, you might not have access to it at all.

But you could create your own macros (similar in function) and build your own
toolbar.

Here's a shell that I keep:

Sounds to me that what you've got is not a toolbar as such. It sounds as if
someone has Grouped that the columns, see help for info about Groups. Open
everything as far as you can so that you can see all columns, then select
all of the columns in one group, except the main/button column for that
Group, then go Data, Group and Outline, Ungroup. If this removes the
arrangement for this Group then Grouping is the root of your problem.

Much better guess than mine.

I was confused with the checkbox reference, but I bet you're right!
