Hide and unhide...what the heck!!??

Okay...I have been working with Excel a long time...and this one has me
baffled! A co-worker is trying to hide/unhide columns in a pretty basic
worksheet (Office 2003)...when he goes to Window-Hide...it hides the ENTIRE
WORKBOOK...not a column, not a line, not even just a worksheet...THE WHOLE
WORKBOOK just disappears! You go back to Window-Unhide and it asks if you
want to unhide Workbook -(FileName)? When you click okay it is all back.

We did discover that you can hide and unhide columns and rows by right
clicking and using that route...but for some reason the other way does the
funny business of hiding everything! Any thoughts on how to fix this would be
GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Leah
Your excel is working fine, nothing wrong the way its working.
You could have more then one workbook open plus if you use "Personal.xls for
storing Macros this is the way to hide/unhide your files.
No Fixing needed.

Okay...I am confused then...is right clicking the ONLY way to hide and unhide
a column or row...I could've sworn (and so would most people in this office)
that we have always been able to use Window-Hide to hide a column or
row...now suddenly we can't!? There are no additional workbooks open...and
honestly...no one but myself even knows how to use Macros in this office.

I feel like I am missing something! Surely there is another way to
hide/unhide columns and rows aside from right clicking. We can't have all
been imagining this process for the last who-knows-how-many years!?

Now I feel like I am losing my mind...I would swear that we had used this
method prior to today!? (It has been a long week...maybe I am just crazy...it
is not beyond the realm of possibilities at this point!)

Click on Format | Row or Format | Column and then you can hide or
unhide from there.

Hope this helps.

Hi Leah
I can't speak for older version of Excel but I'm using XL2003 and thats the
way it works.
Wait and see maybe someone else will come up with something.

Okay...long week! I am not crazy...I knew we were doing it a long way
before...evidently we all forgot where we had gone to find it! Thank
you...feeling silly now! Have a good nite everyone! Thanks for your help!

That's the way 'Windows' > 'Hide' works, it hides the whole workbook.
If you want to hide a worksheet, use 'Format' > 'Sheet' > 'Hide', same with
columns and rows, use 'Format', not 'Windows' on the toolbar and select
either columns or rows,

Alan.
