Hidden from network

I've been running a home network for some time now using
a Linksys router with 4 computers, a wireless access
point and other stuff. I recently upgraded my Win2K
machine to XP pro, and everything worked OK for a while.

Suddenly, without warning or error, my machine cannot see
the other machines on the network and the other machines
cannot see me (all machines are either Win98 or XP Pro.)
I can successfully capture an IP address from the router
and the router shows me on the DHCP table. I can ping to
addresses on the Internet, but not one of the LAN
machines responds to a ping, nor can the other machines
ping me.

Yet, my connection to the Internet is unaffected.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi steve,

Make sure all firewalls are removed while
troubleshooting, and permantly disable the XP's firewall.
The XP firewall is for only direct connections to the
Internet.

Make sure all computers have the same workgroup name (eg.
MSHOME) and the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If the
subnet mask is different, the machines are on different
networks. If DHCP is present, open the command prompt by
clickin Start, Run, and type: "cmd" (without quotes) and
press ENTER or Ok. At the command prompt, type
ipconfig/release, then type ipconfig/renew.

Thanks, Eric, but I've done all that. 5 or 6 times.
I've tried using a fixed IP, DHCP, re-boot, /release
& /renew, arp -d *, nbtstat -R, nbtstat -RR,
ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns. Nothing has
worked so far.

Any other ideas are appreciated.

Hi steve,

You could try completely removing the network. Uninstall
the network adapters you have in Device Manager, and
reboot letting Windows detect them and install drivers
for the NIC as necessary. Then reconfigure the network
and see what happens.

Thanks, Eric, excellent suggestion. But no luck. Here
is the message I get when trying to view network
computers:

"Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server if you have access
permissions. The list of xervers for this workgroup is
not currently available."

Steve I have the same unexplained problem. 3 computer
Linksys/Cable Modem home network. Can ping, access
Internet, but can no longer 'see' host and now host is
even missing the Entire Network icon. Bottom line is I
can't print from the remote machines anymore to the host
printer.
Have you gotten any solutions that have worked thus far?

KIM
