hibernation

My PC running XP goes into hibernation even though I turned it off through
control panel/poweroptions/hiberation, can anyone shine some light on this???
 
Could it be that the system is going into Standby instead of Hibernation? That would be at the bottom of the "Power Schemes" tab of the Power Options applet. Also, check the settings for turning off the hard drives and /or monitor.

Enter the BIOS setup and disable any options like "Suspend-to-RAM (S3)" and
"Suspend-to-Disk (S4)". Check the power options and make sure that there is
no Stand-By mode enabled instead.
