Sorry to seem dence but how can I put my computer in hibernation with Vista

after doing that the hibernate option will be available in
the small arrow popup menu next to the off button on the start menu

Carl, run the following:

vista_idiot = Carl

That should about do it

Click the Start button (Windows orb, whatever you want to call it) and then
click the arrow next to the padlock to select Hibernate. Or, go into the
Power Options in Control Panel and set whatever action you want (power
button, lid close, whatever) to put the computer into hibernate mode.
