HIBERNATE PROBLEM. HELP!

Hi!

I would be very grateful if someone could help me with
fixing a problem I am having with hibernating.

When I put the computer into hibernation, I receive a
Stop error message on a blue screen.

*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC00000005, 0x804EF844,
0xF89463FC,0x00000000)

I then have to restart the computer and loose the pre
hibernation info.

I believe that the problem is caused by an external
storage device and I know that Microsoft have a patch to
fix it. (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813818)

I am however unable to download the patch from Microsoft
as I got my OS (Windows XP Home) directly from Dell. I
get this message when I enter my registration code
through the Microsoft support web page:
The Product ID number you entered is for a product
that was purchased under an Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) licence agreement. Under this
agreement, the original manufacturer of your computer
provides your primary support.

I have not been able to get help from Dell or find a
place to download the fix...

I have tried to use system restore and to roll back
drivers but this has not solved the problem.

Does anyone know how I can solve this problem so that I
can hibernate? Many thanks in advance for your help,

Carl

Make a phone call to MS Support. Tell them it is in regards to the patch
described in MS Knowledge Base article 813818. There is no charge for phone
calls of this type if you only talk about this article - do not discuss
other issues.

Go to http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
for any STOP error, and click on (in this case) 8E in the left panel -
it will give some links to possible explanations
