I do not have a hibernate option. I recently upgraded my harddrive and
installed one with 250 gig.

I loaded Windows XP pro and have updated all of the changes. I show I have
Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3 installed an a HP S7600N Computer.

I have read numerouse suggestions about how to get it to hibernate but I
still have not been successful.

Hibernate is so handy to have and I want to save my data if I am gone from
my puter for an extended time and have not saved my data. I also want to get
on the bandwagon to save the planet and energy.

I did a search on this computer and do not have the hiberfil.sys file. My
other computer has it.

Hibernate function worked great before I installed the new drive. I have
all of the same equipment installed as before.

Any simple suggestions to get the hibernate button working would be greatly
appreciated.

Use the Power applet in Control Panel ( Classic View ). If your XP
setup supports Hibernate you'll see a Tab named Hibernate.( Verify
the option box enabling Hibernate is checked ). If it does not appear
then your recent re-install may have loaded a non-ACPI HAL or
computer driver.

Thanks to R McCarty for a quick response. My puter will now hibernate. I am
now going to post another problem concerning an error message on startup. I
hope to get it into the correct area for a quick reply.

R. McCarty pounded out on the keyboard:

Hi Amos,

Not a hibernation answer, but reading "I want to save my data if I am
gone from my puter for an extended time and have not saved my data",
throws up a red flag here.

If you CARE about your data, I would never walk away from a computer
without saving it first AND knowing you have a backup in case you lose
your drive at ANY given time.

Hibernation is a nice feature, but far from a data saving feature. Make
sure your data is saved and backed up as the first priority. Then worry
about being "green".
