In system folder I have 'hiberfil.sys', size 245000KB,
and 'pagefil.sys', size, 380000 KB. Huge! What are they?
Do I really need them taking up valuable HD space?

If you use Hibernate, the contents of RAM at the time of shutdown will be
stored in the hiberfil.sys file. If you do not use Hibernate, turn off the
feature and the file will disappear.

Pagefile.sys is the "swapfile" or "paging file." It is a portion of the
hard drive that is used as virtual memory.
