hiberfil big file

I stopped my XP and after I found 2 files "pagefile"
and "hiberfil" about of 500 Mb. I know "pagefile" of
course, but ""hiberfil" at the same Mb, What is?

Hiberfil.sys is where your system state information is written to disk when
you put the system in hibernate mode.

If you want to recover this space, disable Hibernate from Control Panel
(switch to Classic View), Power Options. Click the Hibernate tab.
