This is a Microsoft Access database newsgroup, but if your new computer
didn't come with Word, you can download a free 60 Day trial of Office 2007:

http://us1.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx?culture=en-US

Why bother with Word? Get OpenOffice which -
- is free,
- updated regularly by the world-wide computing community,
- is free,
- can handle Microsoft Word files,
- is free,
- can handle Microsoft Excel files,
- is free,
- can handle Microsoft Powerpoint files,
- is free,
- can handle Microsoft Access files,
- is free.

It's a BIG download (over 90 Mbytes) at -
http://www.openoffice.org/index.html

BTW, did I mention that it's free?

If you *insist* on paying money, get Ability from -
http://www.ability.com/
which handles Microsoft files.

Um ... on their site they say, "Latest Windows 2003 look and feel." That
doesn't give me confidence they paid close attention to the Microsoft
applications they were copying the functionality of. Especially when their
database application is included in their set of applications for $59.99.
For that price I don't think they put in nearly as much time and effort in
developing their database application as Microsoft did.

Yes, OpenOffice is FREE and SLOW and NOT AS COMPATIBLE AS THEY CLAIM! And the
latest version. that may solve some of these problems don't support
Windows98SE! I know, what can I say, I'm an old fogey, I started out before
Windows anything!

Get a life! Not even Microsoft supports Win98 any longer. Next
thing, you'll be moaning about OpenOffice not running in Win3.11

So... he just gets OpenOffice. Anyway, there seems to be a trial
period for Ability in the latest version. I just downloaded it and it
works fine with Microsoft Words docs - and can one-click export them
as pdf files, something which OpenOffice also does but I don't believe
is present in Word.

So, one posting not answering the OPs question, which was off-topic anyway,
followed by another insulting someone while not rebutting their main point,
hmm, I'll have to watch out for further posts from you won't I !

Microsoft can't put that feature in its office products, as there's some kind
of legal dispute between Microsoft and Adobe, so Microsoft's solution was to
offer a freely downloadable add-in for Office 2007. Install that and you're
in business.

Now look what you've done - you've got me terrified.

Oh, I'm sorry that wasn't my intention, here, have some virtual stroking and
petting, that should sort calm you down.
