I'm sorry, but it's a bit hard to understand what you want. Do you want
a search tool or a hex editor? A great search tool is Agent Ransack,
from:

As for a hex editor, there are many. If you Google for "hex editor"
you'll get over 600,000 links. I've used Hex Workshop a long time ago:

Hi Malke,
HWShop still works like a charm. :)

Thanks, Dilip. Of course, I get a hex editor included with my SuSE so
that's why I haven't used Hex Workshop in a long time. Hope college is
going well for you.

Hi Malke,
Actually things are quite chilled as of now since my semester is done. So
I'm thinking of partitioning and putting on Suse Personal 9.1 that I
recently got with a magazine and simply didn't have time to install. My
Linux knowledge, particularly at the command line level is not quite what it
should be.

All the best with your business!

IMO, don't bother with Personal. It doesn't have things you really need
on it. SuSE 9.2 is out now and Personal isn't even done any more.
Novell is offering either their Desktop (for corporate environments)
and the SuSE Pro that is right for people like you and me. I haven't
bought it since I'm still happy with 9.1. I'll wait for the Spring
version. If you want really hardcore, though, go with Slack!

Have a lovely holiday season and take care,

Malke

Hi Malke,

Thanks for that! Actually, I just wanted to experiment with stuff,
installing and configuring etc. - These things are taken for granted on a
Windows system, but certainly not on a Linux box, particularly when RPMs are
unavailable and you have to make the installation. I usually don't go
through a readme file while installing a Windows program :). So I happen
to have a few of these installations of various Linux software that I intend
going through (Office suite et al). - The package way (during initial setup)
is actually the easy way out - I'm sure you'll agree.

Anyway, today, I got my hands on Gentoo Linux 4.2 from a DVD; I've got to
make the CD from the ISO. Have you heard anything about this distro? They
claim it's pretty cutting edge.

Thanks for your wishes,

Dilip

Gentoo is excellent. And with that, let's close this thread because this
is OT for a Windows newsgroup. Come over to comp.os.linux.misc or
alt.os.linux.suse.

That one sentence was all I was looking for really -- I'll go for the
installation then. Sorry to bother you with this in this newsgroup.
