Hercules Prophet 9000 Pro AIW Upgrade. Worth it?

R

Ross the Boss

I'm currently running the following setup. But I want to know is it
going to be worth my while upgrading my graphics card to the AIW Pro.

The main benefit I'm looking for is better capturing. Will the 9000
Pro offer me a much bigger jump in capture quality and performance?

Matrox Graphic Card: Matrox Marvel G400 AGP
Motherboard chipset: Abit BE6 - Intel®440BX chipset (82443BX and
82371EB)
CPU: Intel Celeron 950 Mhz
Memory: 256Mb running at 66Mhz (133Mhz Rating)
Hard Drive: Maxtor 40Gb 7200rpm / Maxtor 160Gb 7200rpm
SCSI card type: n/a
Sound card and driver version: Creative Labs AWE64
Monitor brand: Smile
DVD-ROM Drive (make/model): Pioneer 507
CD-Writer: Plextor 24 Speed
Others: WinTV Go!, Generic 56.6K Modem, Sidewinder Joypad, Creative
Dxr2 DVD Card.

Best regards, Ross.

My opinion ... if you can get the G400 TV working, keep it.
I'm not impressed with the AIW 9000 as a video card.

Anyone got any other opinions?

If your primary interest is video capture, stick with the G400. I have
a G400 Marvel and a Radeon 8500DV, and I personally can't see a bit of
difference in the video capture between them. Others with more
experience than I have and a better-trained eye tell me that they prefer
the G400's capture quality, and I certainly can't see anything myself
that would contradict that view.

Matrox produces professional video editing hardware currently priced at
over $5000, and this shows in their low end video capture devices.

The only downside to the G400 for video capture and editing is the
lack of XP support, and I understand that that has now been addressed by
a third party.
