Is the BIOS set to boot from the CD drive first, and did you try
to boot from it?

Try going on your friends computer, download and create boot disks for Windows XP, then try to install them. You will need 6 formated floppy disks. You can get some at office max, circut city, best buy and more.

Bootable CD technology is NOT perfected just yet. That's one reason why
MS provides XP setup disk sets. There are better ways to install XP
anyway.
