My friend has a Dell computer with an operating system that Microsoft no
longer supports...it's ME, and I know this is an XP newsgroup, but I thought
someone here might know what's going on. It has 256 ram, and is 900
megahertz.
Everytime it boots up, it goes to the ME startup screen, does not load all
the way, then gives the screen where you get the options of normal, safe
mode, step by step...etc, but it also says there is a registry configuation
error underneath those options. Now no matter which option you choose, the
computer will then go to a blank screen with a flashing curser in the top
left corner and just hang there. The activity light is flashing on the
computer, but it is still just a blank screen.
So it was decided to use the start-up disk that was made from ME. It loaded,
but when he tried to get to "C" drive, it said C couldn't be found! He
assures me he never heard the hard drive making any noises, but could it be
a hard drive failure? Is there something else to be tried? Any help would be
appreciated.

Did you try the ME newsgroup?

Seems to be a problem with your HDD.

1. Open the cabinet and unplug the current power cable attached to Hard Disk
and plug in another one.
2. Turn on your PC and enter to BIOS setup by pressing DEL key or the key
specify by your BIOS. Look first (POST) screen for the hint.
3. In BIOS check the Standard CMOS Setup options and see if any HDD is being
detected by your BIOS. If you are unable to find the option then let the
computer boot and see if it loads the Windows.
4. If it still doesn't detect your hdd then try changing the Data Cable and
if that even doesn't help then unplug the hdd and plug in to another PC and
check if it detects the hard disk drive.

Hope this help, let us know!
