window appears saying rpc (remote procedure call) failed
unexpectedly and then it shuts down. help!?

you have that virus that was about lately. Go to symantec and get the
cleaner.
PS. Temporarily reconfigure the RPC in the services control panel so it
does not reboot or shut down but restarts the service.
