Help!

I am making a drop down menu...
Lets say the choices are:
choice 1: a b c d
choice 2: e f g h
choice 3: i j k l

i want to make it that if choice 1 is selected, only "a" is displayed
(not a b c d).
if choice 2 is selected, only "e" would be displayed (not e f g h)
etc...

is this possible??

How about just using a helper cell:

=left(a1,1)
