Help!! XP Home network

We have two XP Home computers networked through a switch.

One computer is accessing Quickbook files on the other computer. Whenever
the the screen saver is activated on the computer with the QB files, or the
computer goes to sleep mode, the 2nd computer loses the connection, and has
to restart to get it back.

Is there a way around this issue?

Set the first machine to not use a screen saver and disable sleep mode.
Neither item is necessary.
