Help with tabs

This is an elementary question I'm sure but it's making me crazy. I hit
something so now my tab button is working the same. Used to be that I would
do a bullet point, then tab on the next line and it would go to the next
bullet forward. Now it spaces over but leaves the same bullet point as the
line above. Also, I used to be able to Shift-Tab to make it go back a tab.
Now it won't do that, it goes forward. Any idea how to fix this?

I'm not entirely sure if I understand your problem, but if you click the
tiny arrow dropdown menu on the Multilevel list button, you can change the
way the next bullet level will tab over to... Hope that helped some?
 
I am not sure I understand your description correctly but it could be the
setting "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" in Tools >
AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You Type that used to be turned on that
has now been turned off.
