Help with subscripts

The look and feel of PowerPoint 2007 with the ribbons seems okay. I am
adjusting anyway. But I have a problem with text formatting. As a chemist,
I use a LOT of superscripts and subscripts, and I need to be able to type
these efficiently. In my earlier version of MS PowerPoint, I could enter a
chemical formula with a subscript easily. I would type H CTRL-= 2 CRTL-= O
and it would give me H2O with the 2 subscripted. In other words, the second
CTRL-= would cancel the subscripting. In PowerPoint 2007, I cannot do this.
I must execute a large number of keystrokes to get this right. I looked up
in the (?) help, and it says that CTRL-SPACEBAR will cancel the subscripting
and return me to regular text, but it doesn't actually work. When I type H
CTRL-= 2 CTRL-SPACEBAR O, the O is still subscripted. In fact, the ONLY
character that I can type after typing CTRL-SPACEBAR is the space bar! THEN
it returns to normal text. So I have to type H CTRL-= 2 CTRL-SPACEBAR
SPACEBAR O and then go back and delete the extra space between the
subscripted "2" and the "O". In my line of work this is going to cost me a
ton of time.

Any workarounds, suggestions, or tips?

Thanks!!

One workaround would be to add the subscript and superscript buttons to your
QAT where they are a little easier to get at.

Kathy,

Thanks but don't I still need to take my hands off the keyboard to use
those? All I want is a set of keystrokes that returns me to normal text. Is
it really possible that PowerPoint doesn't have that? (I tried the
CTRL-SPACEBAR suggested in the help file but ... try it ... you'll see it
doesn't actually work!)

Thanks.

Has anbody found a fix, anotherthread suggested third party software but that
is crazy. If MS isn't going to release something official (for a bug
supposedly reported in B2TR) I guess I will have to write a macro. The silly
thing is that the same thing works in word.
