Help with special Excel mail merge...

M

M.L.

Hi. I'm looking for a way to replace some variable names in an HTML
file with row data from an Excel spreadsheet. I would like to create
one HTML file per row of data.

I tried doing this using the mail merge feature of Microsoft Word and
was pleased until I ran into two problems:

1. The MS Word mail merge does not substitute an image in place of an
image name.

2. The final results are printed, whereas I would like each row result
to be saved into a separate file.

Is there any app (preferably freeware) that can extract Excel row data
and replace each specified HTML variable with specific cell data? All
I'm looking for is a more sophisticated mail merge using HTML and
Excel. Thanks.

Word MVP Cindy Meister has instructions for inserting graphics in a mail
merge:

Under 'Special Merges', look for 'Graphics from a database'

and to save the results in separate files, see her instructions under
the heading -- Tips 'n' Tricks. Her code could probably be changed
slightly to save the files in HTML format. If you have problems, post a
question in the Word Mailmerge newsgroup, and someone may be able to help.
