Help With Selective Startup

Hi,

I am an aold guy who is familiar with the concept of a "Clean Boot" and I
have download the info on how to do this with XP.

I need some help with a slight variation. First some background - I play
Hearts o Iron that places a heavy load on my machine. I t does a good job
because it is a game machine, but I need a liitle help because I occasionally
get a "crash to desktop" as the game advances.

Basically I need some help in setting up a selective startup unique to this
game due to some peripherals that I am using.

First, the task should be made easier because I do not play on-line, so this
is not a consideration. For the same reason, no anti-virus protection is
needed as I am protected by a hardware firewall. The items that I want to
retain in the startup due to there help in playing the game are -

Binks Movie Player (option)
Microsoft Trackman Multibutton Mouse
Logitech iTouch Keyboard
or, course, sound (5.1)

My problem is that I am bewildered by all of the options in the selective
starup screens of msconfig. I am sure that I could find out hoe to do it by
trial and eror, but the large number of options, but I was hoping to cut to
the chase as my wife is already threatening divorce.

Can anyone suggest how t eliminate all unnecessary loads on the computer
through a selective start-up that retians only the functions that I have
listed?

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, I believe that this is the Clean Boot procedure that I
mentioned in my original post.

Although I can test it again, I believe that this will not give me the
custom programmed keys on my mouse in particular. The iTouch is being used
as a "stock" keyboard and, upon further reflection, may only be a problem in
that it uses some iTouch software that may have to remain in effect.

Thanks again for you help.

Well, if you don't investigate the information I posted, I certainly don't
know whether it would be a solution. Since you mentioned iTouch being
involved, have you contacted their support section? It is their setup, not
XP and they would be more familiar with being able to achieve what you're
after.

I have investigated it. I have it printed out and had it sitting next to my
monitor for over a year. I suggest that we move on and that I seek help
elsewhere.

You are joking are you not?

No, I am not joking as I failed to provide the following information. I
have my e-mail program to download messages only manually and have the
anti-virus protection enabled when this is done.

Also, there is not internet is use while I play the game, so I believe that
I am not in danger of any virus infection during game play. If you think
that I have missed something I would be glad to hear about it.
