I'm trying to run a repair of my Windows XP, but, during the process, there
are dozens of programs that "cannot be copied" from my Windows XP Home
Edition CD. I've tried cleaning the surface multiple times and skipping all
of the uncopiable files, yet the result is not a bootable product. Do I need
to write down each program that can't be copied and find it on the internet
so it can be copied from another disk? Is there a place where I can download
most of the library of files at once without having to do it individually?
Any other suggestions? Thanks to any and all for help and/or advice. Aj

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation (even
a Repair installation) are most often caused by defective, incompatible,
or sub-standard hardware; in order of likelihood, either RAM, the hard
drive, or the motherboard. On very rare occasions the CD drive or
installation CD is the problem.

Start with testing the RAM. You might try MemTest86:
http://www.memtest86.com/ It's free. Then you can download and use the
hard drive maufacturer's diagnostic utility to test the hard drive. If
both RAM and hard drive test out clean, check with the motherboard
manufacturer for any diagnostic utilities.

Thanks for the quick response- I'd already run the diagnostics on the memory
and hard drive but will re-run them a bit more extensively. You're answer
makes a lot of sense because the last time I had this happen with difficulty
reading files off the CD was when I had a bad memory unit. Aj
