help with "read only" set up

i am trying to change the properties of a folder so that
the read only is not checked so i can copy a file to a cd.
Everytime I do it and apply, it changes back and does not
remain unchecked. It gets a green box inside.
How do i get the folder to remain unchecked for read only!

That's the way XP works. See Kelly's link below. Click on "R" and scroll
down to READ ONLY, for an explanation. This should not impair the ability
to copy to CD.
