Help with QFE Q824704

Marty

Hello Microsoft support/customer service,

Need info on exactly what files are affected by this QFE
and what effect it has on the system.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyId=2FC450E7-A2D9-4E75-B6BA-
9570653F0891&displaylang=en

Normally the QFE page has a link to the Knowledge Base
article, but that link on the above page is broken.
Searches of everything find nothing.

Our QA people need to know how to test based on the
changes from this QFE.

I'll include below the install log and the directory
listing of the repository directory after the install.
Note that the log lists 5 files copied to the repository
root, followed by a line which says

"File(s) Processed : 11, File(s) Succeeded : 11"

and the repository directory has 33 files, 32 if you don't
count "dummy" (I'll pass on the bad jokes...)

Can anyone help or give a KB link which works?

Marty

That's an embedded only QFE, it simply fixes up some component errors, not
fixes in windows files. More like things such as adding a missing registry
key, fixing a typo in a reg key, adding a file resource to a component that
already exists in the SP1 or RTM repository.

So if a new bug pops up in a system which includes this
QFE and some other changes, how are people supposed to
know whether it's because of this QFE or something else?

You put out a QFE and say "we fixed a bunch of stuff" and
give a link to a Knowledge Base article which doesn't
exist? Do you think that's acceptable?

Personally I think it's severely unacceptable.
