Help with Office XP

J

Jeff Stanton

I recently had to reinstall XP Home. I then reinstalled Office XP Small
Business, and have been having a problem.
Every time I open a component of Office, such as Word or Excel, I get a
message box titled "Installing components for Microsoft Excel (or Word)".
The box then shows a progress bar and the message "installing a Microsoft
Excel Feature". This happens EVERY time I open one of the Office
components. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Hi, Jeff.

Chris is right - post in an Office Newsgroup. I see you are using OE6, not
the Web-based interface. So, unless you are blocked by something like a
corporate firewall, just click here:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.office.setup

This should start OE (if it isn't already running), set up the News Account
for the Microsoft public news server, which is free and does not require you
to log on (if you don't have it set up already), subscribe you to the
..office.setup newsgroup, and download some messages for you. Once there,
click Newsgroups and Reset List to see over 2,000 groups available. Type
"office" into the Search box to see nearly 200 groups, many of them in
English. Or type "excel" or "word" or whatever you need.

You'll find many knowledgeable users in those newsgroups who can help with
your Office problems.
