Help with laying out data for a chart

Excel 2003

Hello,

I am trying to lay out my data for a chart but am not able to get the
desired results. I would like to be able to list minimum and maximum
salaries for various positions in my company and to be able to chart this
information so the chart shows the minimum and maximum salaries by position.

As an example, I have laid out my data in the following format:

Cell B1: Minimum, Cell C1: Maximum, Cell A2: Admin Asst, Cell B2: $25,000,
Cell C2: $35,000, Cell A3: Manager, Cell B3: $44,000, Cell C3: $59,000

My goal is to create a chart that shows the position name on the left side
of the chart and then have the bars or lines depict the starting and ending
salary. Currently when I create a bar chart it treats the 2 numbers as if
they have been added together and therefore the bars a summation of the 2
numbers instead of a range. I would like the bars or lines to be based on a
salary range.

Thanks for any help you can send my way.

Put the actual maximum values in column D, and the differences between max
and min in column C. Create a stacked bar chart using column A as the
categories, and columns B and C as the values. Format the 'Minimum' series
to be invisible (no border, no fill).

Try clustered bar instead of stacked bar. Having selected "Bar" as your
chart type, look at the sub-types.
