Help with Formula

I am new to Excel and am trying to make a formula for items I am selling.
After 2 hours of trying I am asking for help. I need starting entries in E5
which has a price to then subtract G5,H5,I5,J5,K5 and have total in K5. I
would like this formula to work for 100 rows. I would also like to have the
dollar sign show and two decimals show. Column B5,C5,D5 have text. If
someone would email me the correct formula and tell me where to paste it I
would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

In cell K5, enter:

=E5-SUM(G5:K5) and copy down

You say that you want to subtract some values (including K5) and for the
total to also be in K5. Any formula in K5 which refers to itself will create
an error message, so could you re-phrase your question?

Hi, I entered my data from the worksheet I had that didn't work. I put your
formula in cell K5 and when I click there I can see the formula. Then I
tried to copy it down but must be doing something wrong. I right clicked and
selected copy. I highlighted 100 rows starting with K5 and then clicked
paste but I get an error. This is so frustrating for me. I even have a book
but that doesn't help. Am I doing something wrong when trying to "copy
down"? I do remember when I had another worksheet that someone helped me
with all of the columns that didn't have any data yet had zeros in them and
when I entered the numbers the zero changed to the total I need. Thanks so
much for the help.

I agree with Pete on the circular ref to K5

However, when you sort out the equation, If you type a formulae into a cell.
Then click on that cell which is shown by a dark boarder appearing around the
cell. you will notice a little dot in the bottom right hand corner of the
cell you have clicked in which contains the equation.

If you carefully click and hold on that dot, drag the dot down 100 rows will
result in the formulae being copied down 100 rows.

Hi, First let me say I made a typing mistake. I meant the total to go in L5.
I am using Office 2004 for a Mac so I couldn't find a black dot. But, I put
my mouse in the lower right corner, held down the left button and dragged
down and it worked. Thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it.
I think I need a better book )

Glad to be of assistance.

There are a lot of shortcuts with Excel but I must admit I don't know
anything about MAC.

As example, if you double click the dot (or where the dot should be) it will
autonmatically fire the contents of the cell (Formulae or contents) down the
column where the column has data in the left adjacent cell.

Example, if A1 to A100 Contain a number
B1 to B100 Contains a second number.
In Cell C1 =A1*B1 will multiply A1 with B1. Click in Cell B1 and double
click where the dot should be will send the formulae all the way down to C100
without having to drag. (Note it will stop at any cell which does not have a
value to the left of it.)

Hi Mike, Thanks for answering my questions. Now to answer yours. A Mulligan
in golf is when you take a shot over, usually when you didn't like the first
one. It is not legal )
